Made it back to Winstar Casino. No luck at gambling,... but was able to soften the blow by having a filling meal at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill! Ordered Cheesie Fries like last time, added Queso and Chips, and then a 16oz Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans. Really liked the Chicken Fried but was way to much to eat at one sitting. Going to need to do a little fasting before trying to tackle this one again!

Had a hankering for Olive Garden's Breadsticks and Alfredo Dipping Sauce! So, we went.... Ordered Breadsticks, Alfredo Dipping Sauce, Stuffed Mushrooms, Minestrone Soup, Stuffed Chicken Marsala, and Spaghetti with Italian Sausage. Craving was satisfied, stomachs were full, and even better just missed the evening dinner rush. Were seated in less than 5"!

After another round of hitting the slots at Choctaw Casino, had a hankering for a midnight snack. Stopped at the Blue Moon Cafe (open till 2AM on Friday and Saturday) and had Waffle Fry Bites and Spicy Buffalo Wings. Waffle Fry Bites are a heaping pile of waffle fries, covered with cheddar cheese, bacon pieces, and sour cream. Liked it and the Spicy Buffalo Wings! Definitely filled the craving after "losing" at the slots :-(... but that's another story!

Went over the border to the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma. Had a little fun at the slot machines. While wandering the Casino decided to have some Cheesy Fries at Toby's Bar and Grill. Liked the atmosphere, live music, and the food looked good. Going to have to try it again for a dinner next time we are up. Till then, did like the Cheesy Fries and the $1.50 Longnecks!

On the road the past week enjoying some new places to eat. Stopped at TJ's in New Braunfels. Restaurant offers burgers, sandwiches, and chicken fried entrees! Partner ordered the "the Alien" - a sandwich that piles on all kinds of meats and uses pizza bread instead of sliced bread! Liked the variety on the menu; will need to come back and try other items...!

Had Sunday Brunch this last weekend at Cheddars! Ordered the Strawberry Lemonade, Queso and Chips, and a Side Ceasar Salad to start things off. Then, went with a bowl of Potato Soup and a Half-Club Sandwhich. Others in the group ordered, Chicken Fried Steaks, Buffalo Chicken Tenders, and Chicken in a Creamy Mushroom Sauce.

Food tasted great, liked the quantity of the portions, and really liked the Honey Butter Bread that went with the Side Salad! Have not tasted better anywhere else!

Had dinner at PF Changs. Been to other locations but this was the first time to visit the restaurant at Watters Crossing in Allen. Ordered appetizers - Crab Won Ton, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Hot and Sour Soup. Yum, yum, and yum in all three dishes! Ordered dinner entrees - Mongolian Beef, Spicy Green Beans, and Combination (Chicken, Beef, and Shrimp) Fried Rice. Tasty, tasty, and tasty in all three entrees! Ended the dinner with a Great Wall of Chocolate Cake - six layers of chocolate cake, add the chocolate icing, chocolate chips, and rasberry syrup.... End Result: Outstanding Dinner! As the picture below shows, cake did not last long!

Had lunch at a local favorite in New Braunfels. Cooper's Pit Barbecue offers a variety of meats, just no plates. Food is served on trays and butcher paper is used instead of a plate.

You chose your meat, they cut it up and wrap it, then pickup a container of potato salad, cole slaw, and cobbler if you like. Pay the cashier, then head to a picnic table with jars of Jalapenos placed within easy arm reach wherever you sit.

Before you start eating though, you serve yourself a healty portion of beans, add onions and pickles and bread, and then pick up utensils.

"It's all about the meat" is what the Restaurant is famous for.... In our case, we were not disappointed. Like the concept of unlimited portions of beans, bread, and jalapenos.

Will keep this one in mind when we are back in the area and have a craving for barbecue. Standout favorites this round were the Beans (very tasty) and Pecan Cobbler "a la mode"!

Bottomline: Left the Restaurant in a food induced coma!

Out and about this weekend. Stopped at the Crosswalk Coffeehouse and Cafe in New Braunfels and had a Breakfast Taco and a cup of coffee. Went with a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Taco; added Potatoes and Black Beans. Throw in the Salsa,... had a filling breakfast and a tasty meal. Will keep this in mind when we are back in the area. Will do like Arnold, "I'll be Back!"

Stopped at a Tex-Mex Restaurant while out and about this weekend. This one is located in historic Gruene, Texas and is just up the road from Gruene Hall - famous dance hall and music venue for many famous musicians. Adobe Verde offers some good eats and live music. Ordered Chips and Queso, a Melon Midori Margarita, and the Diablo Steak. Queso and Steak were tasty and worth a return visit. Margarita can use more alcohol.... Will be back!

Located in Plano and offering a variety of entrees, we had to get our fix of Mexican food - specifically, Enchiladas, Tacos, and the reason why we keep coming back - Steak Picado! Tried a new place that we found online. Rated best pizza in Dallas... Cavalli Pizzeria and Wine Bar in McKinney offers wood fired, brick oven pizza straight from the "Old Country"! Ordered Ensalada Caprese for an appetizer and a glass of red wine. Then, went with the Il Cantindo and the Dallas Pizzas. Capped it off with another glass of red wine and a limoncella, along with dessert - a cannelloni and the "La Bomba". Bottom-line: Agree with the rating as the best pizza in Dallas. Pizza is just like the ones we had while stationed overseas in Italy! Moreover, the cannelloni and the "La Bomba" were outstanding.

Don't pass this place up; give it a try when you get a chance. Next time we stop by, going to order the Margherita Pizza and the Calamari! From others that ordered, these two offerings looked tempting.

Had a hankering for a Thai food this past Friday. Needed to get out of the house as well but did not want to go to a sit-down restaurant. Opted for Thai Box at the Village. Ordered Thai Fried Rice, Red Curry (Beef) and Rice, Pad Thai, and Mini-Egg Rolls. Appetite was satisfied... even had a bonus - live music in the patio. Great easy listening tunes... singer's voice reminded me of Colby Calet with a mix of Nora Roberts.

Tried a new Mexican Food Restaurant in the Village at Fairview. Started by a famous wrestler and the Restaurant's namesake - Cyclone Anaya's! Ordered Chips and Queso and Lump Crab Nacho's for appetizers, a BIG bowl of Tortilla Soup, and then the Pollo Jalisco and the Pollo Anaya.

Really liked the Queso and Nachos and the Pollo entrees were tasty as well as filling! Will have to come back and try their Asada. Till then, glad to have tried this one out!

On a road trip to East Texas, stopped at the Cedar Tree Restaurant in Jasper for their Lunch Buffet. Was pleasantly surprised; enjoyed all you can eat Catfish, Potatoes, and Hushpuppies. Went to Joe's Crab Shack the other day. Ordered a Salmon entree that include Cajun Rice and a Cream Sauce with Shrimp in it. Really liked it; definitely satisfied the seafood craving. Had dinner at Tino's Too in Plano for Dinner. Food was tasty as always! Ordered Chicken Fajitas, a Chimichanga, and Carne Asada. Chips and Salsa for appetizers along with Fried Chiles.

Good eats! Be careful with the Fried Chiles, some may find them too spicy. Ordered the Carne Asada cooked medium, it was.... just be ready to cutout a lot of fat around the ribeye. Else, a very good and filling meal.

FYI: Still recommending the Steak or Chicken Picado as our favorite dish. Spicy, tasty, and filling!

Having had Mexican food for lunch, was hankering for a few drinks at Happy Hour after work! Did so, but then had a hankering for pizza.

Not familiar with the area, passed by a restaurant that offered Fennel Sausage on Flat Bread!

So without hesitation, sat down for a Pizza and a Pilsner Homebrew Beer at Tres Vinos! Would have ordered a wine but opted for a beer instead.

Liked the Flat Bread, will have to try this place again and go for other entrees that will go with one of their wines!

Was on the road this past week. Stopped at a local restaurant chain in Overland Park, Kansas for lunch. Cactus Grill serves up Mexican food and offers a number of drink specials.

Margaritas looked tempting but work before play, so stuck with a Soda with my order of two tacos, rice, and beans.

Liked the tacos, really liked the salsa, and agreed with the locals that the cornbread side dish was tasty!

Keeping this one in mind next time, maybe for a dinner meal with one of those Margaritas!

Went for a bite last night to the Olive Garden in Allen; enjoyed some tasty food and great wine! Ordered Spaghetti with Italian Sausage, Chicken Marsala, Salads, Minestrone Soup, and appetizers (Three Sampler - Cheese, Calamari, and Stuffed Mushrooms). Finished it off with a dessert that was like Apple Crumb Pie with Ice Cream. Forgot the name but it was good!

Cannot go wrong with the entrees at Olive Garden, but the main reason we go is for their House Wines that cannot be bought anywhere else!

Back on the road to the old alma mater.... Stopped for lunch at Boston Pizza. Ordered Spicy Chicken Nachos, Jalapeno and Onion Burger, Bacon Burger Sliders, Fish Sandwich, and a Caesar Salad.

Burgers and Fish Sandwich were good but nothing to rave about,... and salad is salad. Got to really be bad at cooking to "hose" a salad.

But,... strongly recommend the Nachos. The chips are crispy and more like a thin crust pizza than nacho chips. Big news is each chip is coated with cheese! Add the spicy chicken, beans, jalapenos, salsa, and guacamole and you have a "D**N" Good Nacho!

Consider Boston's Nachos to be the best we have tried to date!

Braved the Saturday crowd and long waiting line to eat at Joe's Crab Shack. With a party of ten, it was a given that an 18% gratuity would be added to the check. Regardless, the group wanted lots of noise, appetizers, and crab! So, as the slogan says, "We got our crabs at Joe's!"

That is, nine of us did. One in the party - yours truly, decided to try a new dish - Skillet Paella. The dish is calls for rice, crab, scallops, shrimp, sausage, and other things mixed with rice and topped with fried calamari and two wedges of crusty bread! Also, had Fries and Jalapeno and Cheese Hushpuppies.

Paella was good but have had better. But, have been spoiled by a tour overseas that allowed tasting some D**N GOOD Paella while in Spain! That said, would look to try other dishes next time but will definitely go for more of the Jalapeno and Cheese Hushpuppies. Yum, yum, yum,...

Decided to have dinner at our favorite local restaurant in Allen. Had a hankering for their Pollo Asado entree. Grilled Chicken with sauteed Onions, Spanish Rice, Beans, and Tortillas! Filling meal that includes Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, and Sour Cream. Will be back again!

Have tried Babe's Chicken House in Richardson, Carrollton, and now Burleson. All with the same results... large portions that leave you stuffed. Four of us stopped by the Burleson restaurant for lunch while passing through the area.

Ordered Chicken Fried Steaks and proceeded to satisfy our appetites. Only complaint... the food coma that followed!

Do stop by when you get a chance. Just be sure to be ready to eat!

Checked out the Twisted Root Burger Company in Fairview for lunch today. Ordered a Bleu Cheese and Jalapeno Burger, a Peppercorn Ranch Burger, Straight Fries, and Drinks.

Filling meal... burgers are made using a 1/2 pound of beef! Like the light buns.... just be prepared for the price. Lunch meal price tag was just over $25. More than we really like spending for a burger lunch meal.

That said, the restaurant offers a Pickle Bar that includes a "Chuck Norris Recipe" called the Atomic. Also, there is a Chipotle-Ancho Ketchup, a Barbecue Sauce, and a Honey Dijon Mustard that provide a new twist to the normal condiments. And, their Root Beer has caffeine!

The decor is based on 50's drive-in movie theme - a "Snack Bar" for the kitchen and lawn chairs and picnic tables, vintage movie posters, and a large movie screen playing - guess what - movies on the wall.

Burgers are filling, beer is served, and other burgers like Elk and Buffalo are offered. Comparing with other burger joints in the area, consider the following:

Mooyahs for price, quantity, and taste (of a traditional burger).
Village Burger for their drink specials and sweet potato fries.
Twisted Root Burger Company for a taste of something different than a traditional burger.

Returned to Joe's Italian Bistro in Allen on a Saturday evening for a pleasant surprise! The restaurant was busy and required a15" wait as every table was taken. Glad to see this one s still in businees since the Village in Allen and Fairview opened.

Food is still great going with the Veal Piccata, Chicken Marsala, Linguini with Clams in Red Sauce, and a side of Sausage.

Give it a try when you get a chance! It is still located in the strip mall along Greenville and Bethany, and the prices are reasonable.

Stopped by Mooyah Burger at the Village in Allen. Ordered a Mooyah Burger with:

Swiss Cheese
Lettuce
Tomato
Onions
Mushrooms
Jalapenos
And, the Special Mooyah Sauce

Added a Large Order of Fries for the three of us. Should have ordered a Regular Order instead. Was a lot of Fries!

Really like burgers that don't use large appetite-killing bread for their buns. In Mooyah Burgers' case, bread was light allowing the burger's meat and toppings to satisfy your hunger!

Keeping this one in my backpocket for a filling meal.

Blue Mesa Grill

Stopped by the Blue Mesa Grill in Plano for lunch today. It is just off of the Dallas Tollway and Highway 121 and borders Frisco and Plano.

Nice atmosphere with a couple of hosted parties to keep the staff busy. Tried their Quoxaca Chicken and their Mango, Watermelon, and Orange... Margarita.

Liked the Quoxaca Chicken: Chicken wrapped in bacon with melted goat cheese and a tasty green sauce that complemented the dish. Served with rice and steamed vegetables.

Next round, may have to try other dishes, just skip the Margarita - too sour with little "kick" to make it worthwhile.

Note: .... verdict is still out on this one. Others in our group had been to the restaurant before and noted their entrees were not as good as they remembered on previous visits. Will have to revisit the restaurant and see if this holds true. Till then, liked the Chicken dish!

Checked out Grimaldi's at Watters Crossing in Allen. Ordered the Pizza, House Salad, and Mozzarella Caprese. Excellent pizza... cannot beat a brick oven to cook up a pizza.

For the pizza toppings went with Italian Sausage, Ham, Mushrooms, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, and extra Mozzarella on a large pizza and the Red Sauce.

Good stuff.... Will be back!

The Blue Fish

Had dinner at "The Blue Fish" at Watters Crossing in Allen for Mother's Day.

Opted for the Chicken and Beef Terryaki Bento Boxes which included Miso Soup, Salad with Ginger Dressing, California Sushi Rolls, and Tempura!

Filling meal made even better with Japanese Kirin Beer. Will need to come back to try some of their other entrees!

La Finca Chiquita

Looks like things have moved in the right direction.... La Finca closed in 2009 but it has come back to the locale as the "Chiquita" version.

Located two blocks from Allen's Public Library on Butler Street, La Finca is back!

The menu has a few things missing but the main items remain.

Moreover, the family recipes remain unchanged, so make every effort to stop by and have a meal. You won't be disappointed.

Bottom-line: Go, go, go.... and have lunch or dinner! This is our favorite Tex-Mex Restaurant!

Trinity Hall - Irish Pub and Restaurant

Had dinner at Trinity Hall - Irish Pub and Restaurant in Allen this evening. Had a Guiness Ale and the Irish Breakfast. Others had Fish and Chips, Ceasar Salad, and Lamb Chops.

Filling portions and great choice of beers. Add live music on the Weekends, and you get a packed house with a festive feel in the air. Need to come back and try their Shepherds Pie, heard it is another stomach filling entree!

Going to make it a point to come back and try other beers. May even request the band strike up Steve Earle's "Galway Girl" song!

Stopped by the Cheesecake Factory for lunch while out and about this week. Opted for a "light" lunch that turned out to be a meal.

Had the Chicken Salad Sandwhich lunch special that included Corn Chowder Soup and a side Garden Salad. Added a Peach Smoothie for a drink.

Not a bad meal but it takes a lot to disappoint me. Would go back to try other lunch specials like the Margherita Pizza!

That said, am a sucker for thick and rich Cheesecake and Black Coffee... check them out some time!

Been back to the Village Burger Bar at Watters Creek several times since our first visit in December (2009). Been liking it more and more.

Tried the Swiss Burger and the Blue Burger. Ordered with a Basket of Fries and one of their Drink Specials and you are set.

Of the Drink Specials, already liked the Beer specials, and am favoring the Premium Margaritas - especially, the Traditional Margarita, the Mangorita, and the Sangrita.

Stopped by the Village Burger Bar in Allen when you get the chance!

While out shopping, stopped by the Japan House at 300 West Plano Parkway in Plano. It is a buffet style restaurant that offers sushi, steak, and seafood.

Entrees are cooked in small portions so the food remains fresh and hot. Sushi and Sashimi Bar is first rate. Add in the Seafood and Salad Bar, Udon Noodle and Shabu Shabu entrees, Hot Grill and Tempura section, and a Hibachi and Dessert Bar and you have a wide variety of dishes to select. Bottomline: You will find something that you will like.

Expect to pay around $20.00 for Lunch; more for Dinner. However, you should not be disappointed.

Had a light dinner at the Village Burger Bar at Watters Creek in Allen. Been wanting to try the place for awhile, but havebeen unable to make it till today.

Ordered the Swiss Burger, Village Cobb Salad, Basket of Fries, and a side of Sweet Potato Fries. Burger was good but really liked the Salad with its fresh tomatoes and vinagrette dressing.

Moreover, the Sweet Potato Fries made for a reason to return. Add the daily drink specials, and we will be back.

Cozy atmosphere, orders are placed at the counter, and then food brought out. Also, when you opt for a pitcher of beer, you will like the pitchers used - beer stays cold like it was fresh from the tap!

H-3 Ranch's Live Hickory Wood Grill

Had lunch at H-3 Ranch's Live Hickory Wood Grill located at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Had the Chicken Fried Steak before and enjoyed it. Opted for the Rack of Ribs today.

Ribs were spicy but were very good eating. Throw in a House Salad and some real homemade Lemonade, and you good not ask for a better Lunch or Dinner!

Checked out the Thai Box located in the Village in Allen. Have been several times, and so far so good with the dishes ordered. A fast food style appeal but with better tasting food.

Recommended dishes are suggested below (assumes our Readers enjoy "spicy to taste" Thai cuisine):

Thai Box Fried Rice with Chicken
Peanut Chicken with Jasmine Rice
Red Curry with Chicken
Yellow Curry with Beef
Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp
Pad Thai with Chicken
Mini Egg Rolls with Sweet and Sour Sauce (especially like the Sweet and Sour Sauce).

Check it out when you get a chance. It is a convenient stopping point for shoppers and, with fast service, will not slow you down from completing your Holiday shopping list!

Dodie's Place Sports Grill

Located at the Village in Allen, across the street from the Allen Event Center, is Dodie's Place Sports Grill.

Different menu compared to Dodie's Cajun Grill, formerly of McKinney. No Sausage and Red Beans and Rice dish but the frozen Hurricanes remain the same - GOOD! Just make sure to order them frozen, not on the rocks.

Food is standard Sports Grill fare, catering to sport fans eating and drinking before the game. Else, nothing on the menu to breakout from other grills.

Do keep an eye on the music venue as some decent bands are featured on the weekends.

Chuy's Restaurant

Chuy's located in Plano just off of 75 North between the Parker and Spring Creek exits. Place seems always busy, so we decided to give it a go for lunch.

With a variety of salsa to choose from, you should find one to your liking. Also, tacos, burritos, and enchiladas tailored to your tastes make for ease of ordering.

Trying to be different, went with the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, tender chicken breast cooked with a Lays Potato Chip breading. Came with green chile rice and refried beans.

Not a bad deal!

Located in Allen in the Village Shopping Center is BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, a microbrewery and restaurant with a sports bar feel.

Food is tasty with a lot to offer on the menu. Beer lovers get a chance to try something different. And, you are surrounded by televisions providing the latest scores and highlights!

Non-beer lovers tread lightly when selecting a beer. Be advised the taste can overpower those not used to stout ales. That said, do offer the Berry Cider for those who do not like beer; try it and enjoy a White Zinfandel with bubbles.

For dinner, we opted to go with the Best Beginnings™ Appetizer Combo to kick off the meal. Then, we went with the Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken, and Cuban Burger.

BEST BEGINNINGS APPETIZER COMBO. This sharable platter is designed to delight all tastes. It features a generous assortment of four of BJ’s most popular appetizers: Spinach & Artichoke Dip, Mozzarella Sticks, Avocado Egg Rolls and Santa Fe Spring Rolls.

Shogun Hibachi and Sushi is one we recommend for "Benihana-Style" food but better. Located at 1230 N Central Expressway (Hwy 75) in Mckinney, we strongly suggest trying them out in lieu of Benihana's.

Why? The food tastes better!

With that understanding, try any of their combo dinners on the menu. If unsure, go with the Chicken and Shrimp combo or the Steak, Shrimp and Chicken combo! You won't be disappointed.

Consider the prices moderate to expensive but well below the "chain prices" you get at other Japanese steak houses.

Check it out when you get a craving for "cook the food in front of you" cooking!

Uncle Julio's Fine Mexican Food

Mexican food restaurant located in Allen at 190 East Stacy Road. Braved a busy Friday night to tryout the cuisine. Ordered the Carne Asada with a glass of their house red wine and was pleased.

Food and atmosphere reminded me of the standard hustle and bustle that most popular restaurants in the Metroplex experience on a busy night.

Price of meal and drinks were moderate to pricey but would come back to try out some of their original dinner specials.
